To run like a well-oiled machine— that’s how Mark McLawhorn, Roland Black Heating and Cooling’s Greenville Market Leader, describes his goal for the Greenville market. 

This picture of a team that takes care of their customers and each other wasn’t always so clear for Mark. Growing up, he didn’t really know what he wanted to do, but he did know that he was not going to attend a four-year university. 

“I really wanted a hands-on career. I had always wanted to do some type of trade where I could travel around and meet new people every day.”

Landing on the HVAC industry was more or less a random happenstance for Mark, but it has proven to be a passion and a fruitful career path. Mark earned his associate’s degree at Pitt Community College and has been working with his hands since March of 2017. 

Through his experience and education, he’s learned plenty of technical skills, but one of the most important things he’s learned throughout his professional career is patience. “I believe that’s the way you have to learn to do things. In a lot of aspects in life, having patience and understanding that things will go wrong is crucial. I believe that it’s what you do afterward that determines who you are.”

In addition to learning patience, Mark emphasizes the importance of building relationships with his team members and others throughout the community. His experience with Roland Black Heating & Cooling has been different from what he has experienced before in that the relationships between the owner, the employees and the community are so close-knit. 

“What I’m looking forward to most is being on the other end of the employer-to-employee relationship. I get to do things the way I wish other places would have and I am looking forward to establishing a personal relationship with the people on my team.”
